Valve just made an announcement on Steam regarding improvements to sending gifts and digital gift cards. Some of the features covered included guest checkout, gifting to email, and cross-region gifting.
The gift announcement was accompanied by a companion article going over new wishlist features like categories and wishlist link sharing. If you felt like being a little charitable lately, it seems there’s never been an easier time.
Guest checkout was added to Steam for digital gift cards and hardware purchases back in 2024. Now with current updates, this feature now extends to all Steam games. Even if you don’t know that special someone’s Steam account, another new feature now lets you gift through email.
Got friends overseas? Well, Steam now automatically charges you for your friend’s region at checkout, whereas previously you’d have to rely on purchasing them a digital gift card. The last big feature Steam added is a “Purchase as Gift” button directly to other users’ wishlists.
Better wishlists
Speaking of, wishlists have been improved with the ability to create custom categories in your wishlist. When adding something to your wishlist, store pages now have a handy dropdown menu that lets you easily add a new game to a wishlist category.
The next big change is the ability to share a link to your wishlist that is viewable to even non-Steam users. Wishlisted games now also show a bright green tag near their review rating that will tell you if a demo is available for that game.
